Update - December 2018

This year we asked for feedback on ideas and options for the future transport network in Dairy Flat, Silverdale and Wainui. We talked to the community, Manawhenua, transport stakeholders and local boards. We held public open days, meetings and hui, and received both written and verbal feedback. Information about the options for the North that we consulted on in 2018 can be viewed on the Publications(external link) page.

We have valued your involvement and thank you for providing your thoughts. The general themes that emerged were:

  • There was strong support for a Rapid Transit Network north of Albany to both Silverdale and Orewa
  • Safety and separation are seen as important principles for a walking and cycling network, and people are particularly interested in urban and scenic routes
  • Most people support bus shoulder lanes being added to SH1 between Albany and Silverdale, and like the idea of any new lanes on State Highway 1 being added as "managed" or priority lanes. There was strong interest in the proposed upgrades to motorway interchanges
  • There is overall support for upgrades to the existing road network, including new connections across the motorway that will better connect the new and current areas.

If you would like more detail, a summary of feedback is available here [PDF, 106 KB].

What happens next?

We’re using this feedback alongside other data to help shape a draft preferred transport network. This this will go to the boards of Auckland Transport and NZ Transport Agency for approval early next year, and we’ll keep you updated on next steps in 2019. Have a look at this Next Steps timeline [PDF, 57 KB](external link) for more information about what will be happening when in 2019.
